Honey Baked Goods Contest Recipes
Fabulous bakers and aspiring chefs populate the MCBA.  Make these scrumptious recipes for yourselves and relive the gustatory delight that was the summer picnic, July 12, 2008.

Apologies for having the second place winner confused for a bit!  Abby deserves all the credit!

Honey Pineapple Jelly Roll Log with Chocolate Frosting               1st Place

Scrumptious layers of tender honey cake wrapped, jelly-roll style, around a filling of shredded pineapple and honey.  Slathered with chocolate icing combed to look like tree bark, this realistic log dessert was a real winner, and a treat to all the senses!

The sad news is that you will have to wait for us to get the recipe from Mitzi before you can try this award winning dessert at home!

Chewy Monkey Bars                                                                   2nd Place

The Chewy Monkey Bars made by Abby were crunchy, nutty, delicious, containing oats, nuts and rice krispies.  Scrumptious for monkey and man alike!  These cookies were unique at the picnic and made a big hit with the judges, finishing a strong second place.

Old Fashioned Oatmeal Pie                                                          3rd Place

This dessert by Becky made its first debut at the Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve tour.  It was then made in individual mini-cups as individual cookies.  It received such acclaim that it was returned in its original full pie form for the picnic.  Reminiscent of a pecan pie with its chewy, gooey, sweet center, this pie is easy to make and worth making!  Be sure to enjoy it with whipped cream or ice cream!

Sour Cherry and Mango Open-Faced Pie                                     4th Place

This pie by Becky won points for being a yeast dough crust around a rustic pie.  The fact that the sour cherries were pollinated by the littlest of the MCBA membership (you know the ones in the yellow and black striped suits) didn't hurt either!

Although it takes time, the dough is delicious and can also be used to make breakfast rolls or other treats.  If you enjoy making bread, this is a dough recipe you will want to have in your repertoire!
